Snowbird Creek Delayed Harvest

Big Snowbird Creek Delayed Harvest (USFS footbridge at the old railroad junction to USFS Road 2579) was just recently added as a Delayed Harvest with Fires Creek in Fall of 2013.  Big Snowbird is a pocket fisherman's dream.  With boulders, cascades and few long runs.  Big Snowbird Creek makes up for all this with an assortment of trout.  With a Wild Trout section above the Delayed Harvest this stream has something for everyone.  We just recommend everyone have good pair of wading boots and a wading staff.  Slippery rocks, big boulders and deep cuts make this stream a little more difficult to wade and fish.

Nantahala River Delayed Harvest

Nantahala River Delayed Harvest (from Whiteoak Creek to Nantahala hydropower discharge canal) is one of the busiest in our area.  Being a Trout Unlimited Top 100 Streams attracts anglers from all over the country.  With many fish over 20 inches there is a reason Nantahala River Delayed Harvest is a Top 100 Stream.

"I have talked to people from Colorado, Montana, Wyoming and many other states known for their trout fishing while on the Nantahala."- Manager Justin Mickens

With many open areas and hungry fish Nantahala is an excellent river for the novice fisherman and kids.  This makes a great place for the whole family to enjoy the day.

Fires Creek Delayed Harvest

Fires Creek Delayed Harvest (USFS Road 340A to the foot bridge in the USFS Fires Creek Picnic Area) offers fishermen a little over 2 miles of heavily stocked (from Oct-June) trout stream.  First half mile of DH can be accessed from paved walk way.  Most of this section is accessible from bank.  Path then crosses creek and is accessible from gated Forest Service Rd until path crosses creek again.  Wading is best way to access creek for fishing especially upper section.

"For my guides this is home territory, we have been fishing Fires Creek Delayed Harvest since we could walk. Of course, at that time, it was designated as Wild Trout and a lot harder to fish.  It's always great when you can take clients to a stream you've fished your whole life and help them create memories of their own." - Manager Justin Mickens

Nestled in the Southern Appalachians, Murphy offers many different fishing opportunities for trout.  Within a hour drive we have 3 Delayed Harvest streams with Nantahala being a Trout Unlimited Top 100 Stream.  For the daring we have numerous Wild Water that are just waiting for a Dry Fly to be floated across.
